2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer vision.
The president stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
The news mirrors a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire content from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following some time of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.
Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the months to follow.
David
